Google's ReCAPTCHA is forcing people to mark mailboxes as parking meters.

This is because the NN was trained to see these as parking meters - either by mislabeled images or enough people marking them as parking meters.
And I can see why they would - these mailboxes do look like parking meters to me, a person who doesn't live in the US and has very different mailbox designs.
I've been having the same problem with identifying US style crossroads. Maybe forcing a global audience to display proficiency in local US cultural concepts and designs isn't a good approach for human verification.

'Calling out' surveillance capitalists seems unproductive. Their 'users' know the deal and either can't be bothered to migrate or literally do not care. The former will off-board themselves (using the path of least resistance) if/when their tolerance runs out.

This is interesting; someone's attempted to roughly map the original Legend of Zelda's overworld to the southernmost portion of the Breath of the Wild map.

The whole Suez canal blockage once again highlights how fragile global supply chains are. What's not being discussed much is that breakdowns in supply chains are going to be a lot more common due to climate change. We need to start building robust systems going forward.
